Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo stun in psychological thriller, Shutter Island. This film actually blew my mind in a way I definitely didn’t expect. The whole film I was just sitting there thinking I knew what was happening but I was very far from it (that happens more than I'd like to admit actually). I thought about Shutter Island for weeks after finishing it, thinking about all the things I missed, resulting in numerous rewatches to fully grasp the depth of this movie. It has this dreamlike, hazy quality that immerses you into the film, and onto the island with the patients, just as confused as they are. I love how this film is not just a thriller for the fun of the thrill but a thriller that makes you sit and contemplate on your relationships and the guilt, trauma and fragility of your own reality. Truly such a moving film, Shutter Island should be a mandatory watch in schools, there’s a lot of lessons still to be learned. [Victoria Beaumont]
