This page will be most frequently updated. Dependent on number of entires the prizes are subject to change. Note the updated prizes due to the disproportionate number of entries into each section.

If you are a non-univeristy member you will have to create a guest account. If you already have an account simply log in. If not click on the button saying ''create a guest account''. Fill in the deatils asked for and once this has been completed you will recieve a validation email after a few minutes. Find this email and click the link to validate the guest account. Now you need to return to this page again and the link to the right hand should work. If it doesn't click log in at the top of the page and this time log in with the guest account you just created.

We shall assume a FIDE country of ENG unless specified otherwise.

Format:

- Seven rounds with a time control of 15 minutes + 10 seconds per completed move

- The event will have two sections:

a) Open (All players)

b) Minor (Max grade of 135)

- Entry Fees:

a) £5

b) There will be a £10 surcharge if registering on the day of the event

- Prize Money: 100% of entry fees will go towards prize money (estimates based on 50 entrants- number in brackets gives percentage of total entry fees for each prize)

Open- Estimated Prize: 1st: £55 (22%) 2nd: £35 (14%) 3rd: £15 (6%) Grading Prize: £15 (6%)

Minor- Estimated Prize: 1st: £50 (20%) 2nd: £35 (14%) 3rd: £15 (6%) 1st Grading Prize: £10 (4%)  2nd Grading Prize: £10 (4%)  3rd Grading prize: £10 (4%) 

Distribution of prize money is subject to change based on the number of entrants. We may well add more grading prizes.  

Due to the nature of the event we are not able to give refunds 

Playing Schedule:

Round 1: 10:30-11:40

Round 2: 11:40-12:50

Round 3: 12:50-14:00

Round 4: 14:00-15:10

Round 5: 15:10-16:20

Round 6: 16:20-17:30

Round 7: 17:30-18:40

Closing Ceremony and Prize Distribution: 18:40-18:50

ECF Membership:

All players will need ECF silver, gold, or platinum membership. Any entrants without silver membership will be rejected. Membership can be bought at:

Mobile Phones and Electronic Devices:

Mobile phones and electronic devices are only permitted in the playing area provided the device is completely switched off. During games they must remain switched off. Disqualifications will be used in line with FIDE regulations.

The venue is wheelchair accessible but please email us beforehand to check details.

Grading and Rating:

Eligibility for grade-restricted sections will be determined by the January 2019 ECF Rapidplay grading list. All sections will be ECF graded and FIDE-rated. The following priority will be used for section allocation:

(1) Januray 2019 ECF Rapidplay Grade

(2) January 2019 FIDE Rapidplay Rating (converted using the formula: (FIDE – 700) / 7.5)

(3) January 2019 ECF Standardplay Grade

(4) Estimated grade assigned by the organiser

Ungraded players must give details of estimated playing strength. Ungraded players who cannot demonstrate a playing strength appropriate for their section must play in the Open.

Seedings will be determined by:

(1) January 2019 ECF Rapidplay Grade

(2) January 2019 FIDE Rapidplay Rating (converted using the formula: (FIDE – 700) / 7.5)

(3) January 2019 ECF Standardplay Grade

(4) Estimated grade assigned by the organiser

Pairings:

Pairings will be made according to FIDE Pairing Rules by the Swiss Manager computer program.

Disclaimers:

The Chief Arbiter’s decision shall be final in all disputes relating to the either the Laws of Chess or Swiss pairings.

All children should have a responsible adult with them. We will not be responsible for unattended children.

The organisers have the right to move players between sections or reject entries at their discretion.
