University of Warwick Women's Cricket Club

Cricket (Womens) Sports Club

One of the fastest growing sports clubs on campus, UWWCC is an inclusive, dynamic and welcoming club, offering cricket for all abilities! Whether you’ve played since you were a child, or never picked up a bat before, you are welcome at our club. With regular training and matches, as well as a wide-variety of weekly socials and regular charity events, to be a part of UWWCC is to be a part of a family. You will make friends for life, whilst playing a great sport, and, most importantly, having fun!

Be sure to come along and chat to us in the Sports Hub at Sports Fair 2022, where you can ask us any and all questions about UWWCC - we can't wait to hear from you!

Training 2022

We have four training sessions a week - one is coached and the rest are run by our First Team Captain (Nafeesa Aziz) and our Club Captain (Anna Maxfield). These are FREE and open to all non-members and members in the first two weeks of term. If you're interested in training with us this year please join our Facebook group.

Normal Club training times:

  • Monday 12:00 - 13:45 @ Zone D, Sports and Wellness Hub (Advanced session w/ Men's Cricket. Invite-only, msg Nafeesa if interested)
  • Monday 14:00 – 15:15 @ Zone D, Sports and Wellness Hub (Rock Up & Play - open to members and non-members all year round)
  • Tuesday 16:15 – 18:15 @ Zone D, Sports and Wellness Hub (members-only after Week 2)
  • Friday 11:00 – 13:15 @ Zone D, Sports and Wellness Hub (members-only after Week 2)

Feel free to bring your own cricket kit, however, if you don’t have your own kit please don’t worry - we have plenty spare!

If you're not sure how to get to Zone D just drop us a message via Instagram and we'll make sure someone on the exec can meet you at the Cryfield Nets/Sports Hub :)

Matches

With a competitive BUCS* team (our First Team that plays in both the Indoor and Outdoor BUCS leagues), and a development team (which will play both Indoor and Outdoor matches), there are matchplay opportunities available for all levels of cricket ability, throughout the year. We don’t hold any trials for our teams - players are selected according to ability and attendance by our First XI Captain in the weeks coming up to a game.

NB: *BUCS = British University College Sports - the organisation responsible for competitive inter-university leagues and matches

Socials

With weekly socials, there’s always something to look forward to on the UWWCC social calendar

We have a wide variety of socials to offer; whether you’re after a chill coffee chat, tenpin bowling, restaurant meal, or want a taste of circling & POP! in the copper rooms, we have something for you.

We also love to socialise with other sports clubs; from our annual Cricket Ball with the Men’s Cricket Club, to mixed bar crawls, quizzes and skills swaps with other clubs on campus, you can look forward to meeting lots of people through UWWCC!

Charities

As a club, we pride ourselves on our charity work.

Since 2018, we have worked closely with Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC), raising money for them through a wide-range of charity events. One of our biggest fundraisers is our annual charity tournament, where we invite women’s sports clubs from across campus to play in a friendly cricket tournament and raise money for charity at the same time! As well as this, we started our ‘Get Run Out’ charity event this year over lockdown, where club members did an hour of sponsored exercise at the same time, in different places all over the country, to raise money.

We also host many charity socials, such as our cricket charity tournament and charity circle, and get involved with charity events with other clubs too; this last year we joined the Men’s Cricket Club in their 24hr One Hand One Bounce event, and also participated in CMD’s annual ‘Let’s dance for Sports Relief’.

Campaigns

We engage with a wide variety of campaigns, both within and outside of the university.

Alongside our chosen charity, we use our voice as a club to raise awareness for a variety of issues and organisations, to help progress and improve our world. Some of our most important campaigns include Pride week, This Girl Can, Black History Month and Mental Health Awareness Week, to name a few! We wholeheartedly throw ourselves into our campaigns, as they’re a key part of what makes our club so inclusive and special.
