The existent Societies Federation fee model is currently obstructive to maximising involvement in our societies and by extension the Union. Charging a statutory undergraduate fee of £19 per year has proved a barrier to sustained engagement and involvement within societies.
This motion is in place to mandate the societies officer to introduce a multi-year societies membership fee. The fee will be offset based on the amount of years the member commits to. This is to ensure joining a society is more financially accessible while rewarding loyalty and commitment.
The second part of this motion concerns financial transparency. It is important that society execs and members understand and appreciate where there societies federation fee is spent and how it benefits them. The Societies Officer will be mandated to ensure an infographic is produced outlining broadly where the societies federation fee is spent and how it bolsters student activities at Warwick SU.
Increased and prolonged engagement in societies at Warwick is vital to helping the student community thrive. I hope that you will vote for the motion to make Societies Fed more simple, diverse and accessible.
