Recent reports of scams – guidance on how to stay safe.

We have received recent reports from West Midlands Economic Crime Unit and Action Fraud of a number of serious scams targeting students in the local area.

In recent reports, it appears that international students have been targeted, although we are urging all students to remain vigilant.

The recent scams have involved telephone and online chat calls with scammers alleging to be from an International Embassy or Police force, or from a delivery company implicating the victim in criminal activity.

The scammers may use threatening behaviour and make false claims to demand money and personal information. You should never respond to or feel threatened into giving money or personal information to anyone you do not know, over the phone, online or by email. It is almost certainly fraudulent.
