Blood Donation - Know Your Type session

Event from Entertainments

Wednesday 02 May 2018, 10.45AM - Wednesday 02 May 2018, 2.15PM

SU Atrium

Know Your Type is an innovative activity from NHS Blood and Transplant where students and staff who are interested in blood donation can find out their likely blood type at the point of registration. This allows NHS Blood and Transplant to give you tailored information about your blood type and let you know when and where they would like you to give blood.

With thousands of patients receiving blood transfusions every year, NHS Blood and Transplant is challenging the staff of Land Registry Gloucester to register as a new donor, have a test to find out their likely blood type and book an appointment to donate.

Donated blood is vital for a wide variety of life-saving procedures in local hospitals. Patients undergoing major surgery and emergency treatment often require blood transfusions, but perhaps less well-known is the fact that blood is essential to the treatment for many different types of cancer and blood disorders.

Take part:

SU Atrium
Wednesday 2nd May
10.45am - 2.15pm

If you can’t make the event, you can register as a donor, find local sessions in your area and book an appointment to donate by clicking here: www.blood.co.uk or by using the app on your Android, Windows or Apple device. To download an app for your device, search 'NHSGiveBlood' in the app store.

In general, as long as you are fit and healthy, weigh over 7 stone 12 lbs (50kg) and are aged between 17 and 66 (up to 70 if you have given blood before) you should be able to give blood. If you are over 70, you need to have given blood in the last two years to continue donating.

To find out more about donating blood or to book an appointment, call 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk.
