Warwick SU Spring Elections 2019

Spring Elections are a chance for students to Make Your Mark on the Students' Union and student experience at Warwick University. The elections happen every year where students elect their Full-Time Sabbatical Officers, Part-Time Liberation Officers and Environment and Ethics Officer to steer the direction of the Union for the next Academic year.

President

You will be the outward face of the Students’ Union, promoting the interests and activities of the Union to external bodies. You will be the primary representative to the University as well as local, regional and national bodies You will advocate, campaign and lobby on behalf of and alongside students to champion their rights and interests you will sit on University committees such as Senate and Council You will be the Chair of the SU Board of Trustees and sit on the SU Liberation and Divers

Education Officer

You will work to give students the best possible education experience and represent all students’ academic interests, including underrepresented student groups such as postgraduates, international students, part-time students, mature students, medical students, students of non-campus based courses (e.g. degree apprentices and 2+2 students), and championing the rights and interests of marginalised student communities e.g. BME students, LGBTUA+ students, disabled students. You will train,
  • You will work to give students the best possible education experience and represent all students’ academic interests, including underrepresented student groups such as postgraduates, international students, part-time students, mature students, medical students, students of non-campus based courses (e.g. degree apprentices and 2+2 students), and championing the rights and interests of marginalised student communities e.g. BME students, LGBTUA+ students, disabled students.
  • You will train, support and work alongside course reps, part-time officers and faculty representatives to achieve real positive change in teaching & learning, the student experience & national higher education policy. You will also sit on the SU Education Exec and be a full voting member of Student Council.
  • You will be the main point of contact within the SU for issues on academic-related matters and concerns, and may take on case work to support students with academic appeals etc. with the support of the Advice Centre
  • Most of your time will be spent in Committee meetings, as you are the primary representative of academic issues to the University. You will sit on University Senate and Academic Quality and Standards Committee (AQSC), and maintain contact with academic Departments, the Library, IT Services, Students Careers and Services (SCS) and the Learning Grid.
  • You co-chair the Student Learning Experience and Engagement Committee (SLEEC) which involves liaising with fellow co-chair, the University’s Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor, to put the issues students care about at the top of the agenda of one of the University’s most powerful Committees.

Democracy and Development Officer

• You will be responsible for upholding the SU Democratic processes. • You will initiate, support and ensure compliance with democratic processes including Student Council, elections, and All Student Votes, and ensure policy decisions relating to SU services are implemented. • You will ensure that proposed policies relating to SU services are properly assessed for feasibility before reaching decision making bodies, alongside Impact Assessors and the Democracy Exec. • You will oversee the SU’s
  • You will be responsible for upholding the SU Democratic processes.

Postgraduate Officer

Postgraduates make up approximately 40% of the student body, and you will ensure that this voice is heard within both the university and the union. You will ensure Postgraduates have the best possible education experience, leading on postgraduate academic issues and working closely with the Education Officer to ensure a consistent approach to representation across the institution to widen access and participation for all students. You will regularly liaise with course reps and faculty reps. Yo

  • You will make strategic decisions concerning the long term strategy towards postgraduate engagement with the union.

Societies Officer

You will support and guide 250+ societies and their executive committee members ensuring them and their membership have the right support and guidance. You will be responsible for helping to promote society events, facilitating society related decision making, helping to assign society budgets and set up new societies, advising on best practice, and helping co-ordinate training for executive committee members. You will be responsible for the organisation and promotion of societies fair, so

  • Along with the Sports Officer, you will make political decisions and long-term strategy concerning student development, and promote opportunities for student development and activities.
  • You will sit on the SU Societies Exec and be a full voting member of Student Council. In addition, you will work closely with members of the SU Societies Exec to give advice and guidance to all societies.
  • You will build a close working relationship with all society exec members and be the first point of contact to resolve contentious issues.
  • You will work closely with SU and University staff to highlight hte needs and wants of societies. This includes Society Co-ordinators, the CE of the SU, Campus Security and Warwick Estates.
  • You will sit on SU and University committees and be the voice representing students and societies to ensure the needs and wants of societies are not left out of strategic discussion.

Sports Officer

You will be the public face of student sport on campus, ensuring that students at Warwick are continually inspired to get active and involved with clubs, and show how sport matters for: our physical and mental well-being, professional opportunities, and in helping to create a truly inclusive, diverse and vibrant University environment. You will proactively engage with all student clubs and the student community in the overall promotion of sport and healthy activity, and be responsible for the o

You will lead policy and campaigns that help improve student welfare at warwick, raising awareness of and improving health; welfare services; sexual health and accommodation. You will work closely with the SU Advice Centre and maintain contact with Nightline, the Senior Tutor’s Office, the Health Services, the Chaplaincy, Campus Security, the NHS and the local community. You will ensure the SU is addressing the needs of students with disabilities and raise awareness of the issues students with disabilities face amongst the University community, often lobbying the University for change. You will plan disability awareness events as part of Disability Awareness week and campaign against ableism in all of its forms.
