General Waste

From 2008/9 to 2014/15, the SU has reduced the volume of waste sent to landfill by over 35%, and we have continued to improve this year. As of the end of March 2016, our general waste volumes are down by 12% compared to the same period last year. Due to better use of recycling facilities (including glass, plastic, cardboard, paper, used cooking oil, food plate waste), we have also managed to reduce the compactor collections from twice weekly to fortnightly on a regular basis throughout the year - thus further improving our carbon footprint by reducing vehicle journeys.
