WASS is all about bringing men and women together to combat sexist attitudes and practices in our society.

With a little self-expression and self-understanding

on the side.

 

 

We try to cover as many interests as we can — from campaigns, to academic, to zines, to radio shows, to debates, to culture groups — we want to introduce people to as many ways to tackle sexism as possible!

 

 

Upcoming Events Term 1…

 

Monday Week 2          Societies’ Fair – come and meet us at the Union Societies Fair, find our more about our exciting campaigns and events, and join the all-important mailing list!

Thursday Week 2         7pm Meeting Room 5 SUHQ – WASS Taster Session – an informal introduction to what WASS is all about! Examples from our Subvertising workshops, tales of last year’s campaign fun, and the chance to discuss in a relaxed atmosphere what anti-sexism means to you. Followed by drinks in the Graduate!

Week 3      WASS in the Piazza – stand by for a glorious piece of interactive campaign art as we challenge beauty sterotypes!

Week 5      Film Showing: tbc – we’re hoping to show a Channel 4 documentary on the reality of working in the porn industry, followed by a short discussion.

Week 8      Reclaim the Night – to mark this event we will be travelling to London to take part in the annual, women-only Reclaim the Night march, and also hosting our own campus march which will be open to all genders!

Week 9      White Ribbon Day – week 9 is host to White Ribbon Day, which annually marks the campaign for an end to male violence against women. WASS will be having a piazza stall and petition signage!

Week 10    End –of-term meal! – to mark the end of another busy term of anti-sexism campaigning, WASS will be organising a members’ night out in celebration!
