Welcome to Warwick University LARPs Society
Warwick LARPs is a casual, friendly introduction into the world of LARPing, and whilst we seriously enjoy the hobby, we take absolutely nothing seriously. Every session is started with a meal in the sunday carvery, and finished with a round at the pub. There's no need to buy your own equipment, nor to have any experience in, well, anything, and all of our adventures are safe and secure; there's never any need to worry about getting hurt.
Regular games are on Sundays of weeks 1 through 9; we meet in Union North at midday in or around the Lounge.
Quest Sessions are also available for request, but don't expect them to be a walk in the park... (except for the bit where, y'know, we actually walk through the park)
What is LARPs?
LARPs stands for the Live Action Role-Play, and is an avenue of oppurtunity for every urge you've ever felt to whack something with a sword. Or an axe. Or to magically set something on fire. Your call, really.
Our society provides all of the equipment, costume and setting you'll need to adventure with your mates and create your own epic stories and legends. You might be unlucky enough to get cut down by an errant goblin in your first quest. Or, you might thrive in a gritty, deadly world, forging your own empire, starting your own religion, or perhaps just hitting everything that moves.
All you need in order to get involved is a sturdy pair of shoes and an old pair of trousers, and a will to get stuck in and enjoy yourself. We have both casual and hardcore roleplayers who enjoy our games, and whether you're completely new to the whole weird thing, or a seasoned adventurer of many different systems, we have something for you to sink your teeth into.
What do we Actually Do?
The core of our activities is Scarred Lands, our regular fantasy system, which we run every fortnight during term time. Scarred Lands is simple, straightforward and terribly good fun, combining gritty, hard-bitten rules and background with light-hearted players who're always up for a giggle. Scarred Lands is supplemented by Quests, which are missions requested by players and which run parallel to the main campaign, along with In-Character socials, where we head into a suitably olde-worlde pub to plot, scheme and drink ale.
We also have other activities, which allow players a chance to try something different, whether it be a new system they've created, an alternative background or campaign, or something else entirely. We have Jugger, an international LARPing sport.
So please, if you're looking for something that's fun, energetic, sociable and interesting, please don't hesitate to stop by Union North on a Sunday, at 11:00, and pay us a visit. Pick up a weapon and join in, and you'll soon see why we're one of the most friendly and outgoing societies on campus.
Jugger
If the weather's fine and there isn't too much goose poo on Rootes Field, we'll sometimes have a quick match of Jugger. A LARPs-alternative to Rugby, Jugger is an "organised" sport involving goals, a skull, and lots of sportsy mayhem. Actual sporting/athletic talent not a requirement.
