Welcome to the International Current Affairs Society
This is THE place for current affairs in Warwick. Whether you try to steer every conversation you have to the current climate in the Middle East, or you just want to keep up with important events around the world, the ICA is for you. Don't compromise, join today!
We hold weekly meetings involving informal discussions on current issues in international and domestic news. If you are one to express strong opinions surrounding world events, we would very much like to hear them. If you just want to learn more, don't feel you need to contribute greatly. We always welcome new faces. Rest assured, there is no need to join the society for your first few meetings, just come along and see if you like it. If you want to know what we'll be discussing beforehand, drop us an email and we'll send you out a newsletter.
Last year we held a succesful society trip to London, visiting the Houses of Parliament and holding a social. This year we will again look to organise a trip. We also support relevant campus events, so get in touch if you feel our input and spreading of the word would be useful. Please contact ICA president Anthony Carter (Anthony.Carter@Warwick.ac.uk) if you want to find out more information.
We are a small society and always aiming to grow. If you are interested in collaborating with us on a relevant project please get in touch!
Term 1 Meetings
Our weekly meetings will, as ever, be at 2pm on Wednesdays in Social Studies room S0.18.
Here is the newsletter for the 7th December.
Everyone needs a break from work once in a while, and what better than a lively discussion of current affairs? Come along for an hour of discussion, relieve some exam stress with the ICA.
We make our meetings informal, with some structure in what we talk about but no rigorous debating, so anyone can come along and feel welcome, putting forward opinions wihtout having to prepare a big debate.
The ICA Radio Show
As well as our meetings, we also have our own radio show on RaW. Tune in at 5pm every Saturday for this term. If you would like to come along, get in touch either by sending a message to the email address at the top of the page or contacting Patrick our Radio Secretary directly. It is always useful to have an expert on a current news story, so if you have views to air on the radio on general news or on a specific issue, get in touch.
Also, if you have any comment on our show, get in touch via the RaW website or the RaW studio email address (
studio@radio.warwick.ac.uk) during our hour long show and we'll endeavour to read out any relevant messages we receive.
Socials
Every Wednesday after our meeting we aim to head to the Graduate (or the Dirty Duck as younger members my know it) for continued informal discussion and general banter.
We also aim for at least one curry trip per term, generally alternating between Leam and Cov. These are always fun and generally end either in a pub or in the Cov case, with cornershop bought booze in the President's house. Plans are also afoot for barbecues.
Additionally, we have a successful RAG quiz team which has been reliably supplying drinks for our socials. Unfortunately it appears no quizzes this term due to the union refurb, but hopefully we'll be back to dominate again from September.
See you at a meeting soon!
Tony (President)
