Important Documents

There are a few important documents you need to know about if you are on a society exec. These will give you an understanding of how societies work within the Union, and the different regulations you have to stick to. Please ensure that you have read them, and that your society abides by them.

Society Constitution
All societies have a constitution, which was written and agreed upon when the society was first recognised. This outlines the specific aims and objectivies of the society, as well as generic society information such as the role of the Society exec, how exec elections should be carried out, etc. Most societies have this generic one, but some have a more detailed society specific constitution. Your specific society constitution can be found in the Resources Room, and can be changed by a majority vote at a General meeting. The new constitution must then be ratified by the Societies Federation Committee.

Societies Appendix
This is an appendix of the Union's Constitution that outlines how societies work within the Students' Union, and explains the role of the Societies Federation Committee.

Equal Opportunities Appendix
This is also an appendix of the Union's Constitution outlining our Equal Opportunities Policy. As an exec member, you are responsible for ensuring that your exec, your society and your members abide by this policy. If you breach it in any way, or a complaint is made against yourself, another exec member or the society, an investigation will take place which could lead to disciplinary action. The Equal Opportunities Impact Training course will go into more detail about the responsibilities of Exec members to ensure equal opportunities in society activities.

Society Finance Regulations
These are the Union's regulations on how society money is administered, what it can be spent on, and rules surrounding transactions and external accounts. All society treasurers must make sure they are aware of these. The Managing Your Money Impact Training Course will go into more detail about society accounts and the responsibilities of the Treasurer.
