Society Elections

Society execs must be elected, never appointed or selected. This means holding an election, which every member of your society is allowed to vote in.

There are always a few complaints from students about how their society's elections are being carried out. Avoid this happening to you by making sure that you read the guides here, so that your elections run without any problems or complaints.

You should also read your constitution to check that you are following the points on there too.

Different ways to run your elections

Exec elections can be carried out either in a General Meeting or via email. It is highly encouraged to carry them out in a General Meeting because this gives members of the society a chance to give their views on the running of the society, and allows for interaction.

After elections comes handover

Once you've elected a new executive committee don't just leave them to work out everything for themselves! There should be a handover period of at least a couple of weeks where the outgoing exec still run the society, with the incoming exec learning how to do it ready for them to take over.
