Here you can find out about getting transport for your society. As a note, many of the rules and regulations here are governed by the University, because we have strong ties with them with insurance and especially minibus hire.
Minibuses
Societies can hire minibuses from the University for use on society business, and you can arrange this with Hannah Browne in the Resources Room. However, the University's regulations state that minibuses cannot be used for socials, even if the main purpose of your society is to go on socials!
If this causes you a problem, for assistance in arranging alternative means of transport (especially coaches), speak to Hannah, and please make sure you read the section below regarding use of private vehicles.
Hiring a minibus is free apart from the petrol costs, which will get charged at:
0-100 miles - 82p/mile
100-250 miles - 42p/mile
250+ miles - 17p/mile

Using Your Own Vehicles for Society Trips
It is absolutely crucial that if you are using your own vehicles for society trips, you must have fully comprehensive insurance under your name and register your vehicle with the Students’ Union (form available from the Resources Room).
If you don't do this and there is an accident, you might not be covered by your insurance because you're driving for society business. This could be utterly disastrous for both your society and you personally. Please contact
Gerard Henry, Student Activities Manager if you are unsure, do not take the risk!
Assuming that you have completed the Private Vehicle Hire Form as required, you can reclaim petrol expenses for your trip at up to the following rates:
0-100 miles - 25p/mile
100+ miles - 17p/mile
If you don't think that the trip has cost you as much as that and you want to save the society some money, you can claim petrol expenses back at a lower rate.
