The Symphony Orchestra is one of the largest societies on campus, with well over 140 members taken from the ranks of the string and wind players in the Music Centre. Since there is no full time Music Degree at the University, everyone who takes part in any activity in the Music Centre is there because they want to be. The string section for the orchestra is completely unauditioned, and the large number of wind players have auditions on Wednesday week 2 of the first term for the chance to play in the orchestra. Symphony Orchestra regularly participates in national and European tours, and details of our last tour to Northern Italy can be found on our website. We are conducted by the University's Director of Music, Paul McGrath, as well as Lucy Griffiths (Assistant Director of Music).
Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays, at 7pm in the Butterworth Hall.
