The Iranian society at Warwick University was set up to provide a society for Iranians and non-Iranians at Warwick to meet, socialise, and actively engage with the Iranian culture. The society provides events, academic and non-academic throughout the year, and details of upcoming events will be posted on this webpage, and on facebook groups (Warwick Iranian Appreciation). The society strives to increase understanding about Iranian culture and history to Warwick students through the events. The turmoil caused by the recent presedential elections in June 2009 is the hottest topic amongst fellow Iranians, so it is our priority to make people aware of the tragedies that have occured, which has provoked what is now referred to as the Green Movement. Light cloaked the entire city of Tehran, as thousands gathered around Mosques and schools, to vote for the opposition leaders, Mousavi and Karroubi, yet the outcome was catastrophic. It was the biggest protest since the revolution in 1979, and everyone was immensely driven to make a difference; crowds passionately deploring for justice. Despite all of these political upheavals, it is important for us to emphasise that Iran's incredibly warm, rich culture, is never lost: A country with amazing food, infectious music, world-famous philosophy, iconic fine art, and unforgettable architecture.
