How To Join Societies |
 |
 |
This is your guide to joining societies! Have a read through and if you have any questions, send them to the Union's Societies and Student Development Officer, Tom Lindsay, at
ssdo@sunion.warwick.ac.uk.
1. Have a read of the section 'Societies Federation' below.
2. Log in to the Union website (at the top right). If you do not have an account on the Union website, click 'Create Account' and follow the instructions.
3. Go to the Societies page, and click 'View All Societies'.
4. Have a look through the pages for any societies you might be interested in. At the bottom of each page, you will see options to join. Click the appropriate one, depending on what kind of membership you need (see below).
Alternatively you can do all of this at Union North Reception, Monday to Friday, between 10am and 6pm. Once you've joined, societies should contact you to let you know what they're up to!
Societies Federation
To join most societies you first have to join the Societies Federation. You can do this by scrolling to the bottom of this page and adding the relevant membership to your basket, or at Union North reception. You can find out which membership is the right one a bit further down this page.
Don't worry if you forget - if you try to join societies without being a member of Societies Federation you will get a reminder when you go to check out.
What is Societies Federation?
The Societies Federation is the organisation that all of our societies are part of. It helps, funds, trains, and oversees all societies so that they can carry out their activities. The money that you pay to join Societies Federation goes directly towards funding societies so they are able to buy the equipment that they need, subsidise transport costs and entry fees, and help to cover any other expenditure required to run the society and enhance your experience at Warwick.
There are some societies that you can join without paying for Societies Federation membership. You can join those in the normal way, except you don't have to join Socs Fed as well.
Different Kinds of Membership
Standard Membership is for students at the University of Warwick.
Associate Membership is for people who are not students at the University of Warwick.
There are different kinds of membership of Societies Federation and of societies. If you are not a student at the University of Warwick, you can still join societies - you can do so by creating an account on the website, and joining societies as an Associate Member.

Societies Federation Committee
The Societies Federation is run by an elected committee like a society, and it is here to represent society interests and help develop societies. The committee also recognises and derecognises societies, handles emergency fund applications, and organises the Society Awards Party in Term 2.
Feel free to email any of us to ask questions about Socs Fed and what the committee does, or what you think we should be doing! Just email Pan Ellinas, your Societies Federation Committee Chair at socsfedchair@sunion.warwick.ac.uk, or Tom Lindsay, Societies and Student Development Officer at ssdo@sunion.warwick.ac.uk.
