Are you ready to inspire the next generation of University students?

In conjunction with Teach First, Warwick SU is sending taking students to visit disadvantaged comprehensive schools in the West Midlands area.

After being given training by Teach First and Warwick SU, you will be assigned a local school and will have to design a project that involves sharing you experiences of University with a group of children and combating any misconceptions that they or their parents may have about Higher Education.

We will be working with children from areas where the participation rate in Higher Education is very low, so we hope Inspire will give Warwick Students the chance to raise the aspirations of these young people.

Teach First and Warwick SU will provide support, guidance and resources to help you get the most out of the Inspire scheme.

Benefits of the scheme

The scheme intends to offer all round benefits.

Participants will have the chance to give something back to the local community but will also learn a whole host of skills. Communication and presentation skills will all be developed and the scheme is sure to enrich a CV.

The local schools participating in the project are very grateful for the opportunity for their pupils to meet University students and be inspired to continue in education.

Who should apply

Anyone! We aim to reach as many schools and children as possible and we would love a wide range of students from across our diverse student body. Undergraduates and postgraduates from any discipline are more than welcome to apply. As long as you have an interest in the scheme and that you are willing to try and inspire local school pupils.

What the scheme involves

The scheme involves designing and conducting a series of workshops in local schools for groups of disadvantaged children aged 11-15 with the aim of raising their aspirations and encouraging them to apply to University. We understand the academic commitments that students have, and will ensure that any commitments will not impinge on them.

Participants will be expected to attend training sessions.

All participants will receive a certificate and will be encouraged to apply for the Warwick Advantage Award. Participation in the scheme will also be recorded on Students’ Higher Education Achievement Report which they will receive at the end of their degrees.

Applications will open for the scheme on Monday Week 2 (8th October) and close on Monday Week 4 (22nd October).
