National Demo against Fees and Cuts – Defend Education, Fight Privatisation
Last autumn saw the biggest wave of student demonstrations, protests, occupations and uprisings in a generation. When the Coalition government voted to increase university tuition fees to £9000 per year, students were undoubtedly angry. The ‘We Will March’ protest organised by NUS saw tens of thousands of students on the streets of London. Now, with the fee rise due to come into force next year, and with funding cuts already affecting universities nationwide, students are taking to the streets once again to have their voices heard.
The National Campaign against Fees and Cuts, with the support of NUS, has organised a march on November 9th to protest against the recommendations of the HE white paper. If implemented, the recommendations will further change the landscape of Higher Education as we know it, seeing a shift from education as a public service to a privatised sector that prioritises the highest bidder and doesn’t know the meaning of widening participation.
Warwick SU believes in free education and is committed to widening participation. Warwick SU also wishes to support its students and campaigners, which is why we are taking a coach to the demo on November 9th – as are many other students unions. Tickets are available at the subsidised rate of £5 per person. Join the facebook group 'Warwick Against the Cuts' to keep an eye out for banner making sessions etc. or email education@warwicksu.com with any questions or concerns.
We marched before – we’ll march again!
