The Psychology Society are hosting their second annual Ball on 27th February 2009.

Guests shall enjoy a delicious three-course meal, music, dancing, and the opportunity to visit the venue's Nightclub after the event ends.

Psychology Society members can purchase tickets for a reduced price. All guests are welcome to purchase tickets for partners/friends.

Eclectic Electric is a brand new night hosted by RaveSoc, Warwick's premier society for those with a passion for electronic music and banging, boudary breaking nights out. For the uninitiated, at Eclectic Electric you can expect a genre-hopping selection of the very best in dance music, courtesy of not one, not two, but five specialist DJs each dedicated to bringing you a different genre of innovative, forward thinking electronica guaranteed to keep you dancing until the early hours.

At Eclectic Electric's first installment you will hear:

SCORE feat S CLUB 3 (07/01/2009, 18:00)

The post-pop solo career has always proved problematic. For every Robbie Williams, there’s always a Lisa Scott Lee (oooooh... messy); for every Charlie Simpson, a dozen Matt Willises (try saying that with a mouthful of caramel). Lee Latchford from Steps even has a new band called ‘The Latch’ who are apparently influenced by Rage Against the Machine. “Tragedy” indeed…

Thankfully however there are always going to be those who know where their priorities lie and devote themselves wholeheartedly to giving the kids what they want. Bradley, Jo and Paul – three founding members of the legendary S Club 7 – are a trio of such troopers who’ve recently headed out on a sell-out campus tour which saw them perform the S Club classics to hordes of screaming punters desperate to recapture the glory days of their youth (when the most pressing financial crisis was whether your local Newsagent would have enough Fruit Salads and Black Jacks to generate the requisite amount of parental despair after they forked over your weekly pocket-money).

Reach, Don’t Stop Movin’, Bring It All Back, Never Had a Dream Come True… stone cold classics, every single one of ’em. You know the words. You’ve bawled along with your arms to the sky at a dozen cheese nights in the past. Now here’s your chance to experience the legend live in the flesh as we welcome along S CLUB 3 to the Union for a special appearance at Score (apparently the other four weren’t biting at calls for a full-band reunion tour – well, more fool them!)

As the band themselves firmly attest, there ain’t no party like an S Club party (actually there are, but they usually end with someone croaking it on ecstasy, and that’s no fun). It’s time to reach for the stars again…

Pressure feat. Fabio & Grooverider (08/01/2009, 22:00)

Kicking things off at the first Pressure of 2009, we have the team of the decade coming down to smash Tempo apart exclusively for us. Recently these two have been appearing separately and doing their own thing, and with a recent run in with the law standing in the way of touring last year I had to go all-out and get Radio 1’s premier drum and bass presenters, DJs and producers.... FABIO & GROOVERIDER.

From playing pirate radio to residing at Britain's most exciting and ground breaking clubs, Fabio & Grooverider have forged a path that has shaped the sound of drum'n'bass and been vital in establishing the house, techno and early breakbeat scenes in the UK.

The duo first hooked up in early 1987 at Phase One, a pirate radio station which also featured the likes of Colin Dale and David Angel. An instant rapport was established as Fabio dropped funk and soul numbers over Grooverider's hip hop beats.

Fabio & Grooverider have always been a couple of steps ahead of their contemporaries, laying down early European techno way back in 1989, and developing the first UK breakbeat as long ago as 1991 at seminal club night Rage. They've also played extensively on the rave and house circuits for years, both together and separately.

So... "who else did we get?", I hear you cry… Well, with the fast-growing movement of liquid jungle and drum'n'bass we had to take a trip over to the Hospital Records camp. Brimming with talent from every corner, the Hospital Records crew have pretty much dominated the UK drum'n'bass scene recently with tracks making it into the top 40 and inspiring a new generation of clean liquid DnB. So, just for you we've got who we rate as the best producer on the label:

DANNY BYRD

One of the very first artists to sign to Hospital way back at the turn of the millennium, Danny Byrd's own inimitable take on soulful, vocal Drum and Bass has become a staple in the scene. His use of house and R&B influences immediately began turning heads with his first Hospital singles Do It Again and Changes. Then, later that year, when Radio One's Fabio championed Danny's remix of London Elektricity's Wishing Well, his status as a soulful DnB heavy-weight was confirmed. It's always been about quality rather than quantity with Danny Byrd with remixes for High Contrast and contributions to the "Weapons of Mass Creation" albums making up his select output. Since 2005 however, the Byrd man has found an unparalleled level of productivity, with the massive Soul Function and Dog Hill singles for Hospital as well as contributions for Spearhead, V Recordings and Advanced.

With a growing reputation as one of the finest party DJs in the scene, Danny Byrd has been touring nonstop, taking him from Los Angeles to Paris, from Romania to Vienna, as well as closer to home at the Herbal & Heaven Hospitality nights. If you haven't already heard his dynamic dubplate selection, you can check the technique on Disc 2 of the latest Weapons Of Mass Creation album.

If you've never been to Crash before, chances are you're in for a surprise. Far from being a doom-laden band of black-coated mopers sneering cheerlessly like that deep-voiced kid from King of the Hill, you'll find a merry band of regulars having a right old knees-up to a belting array of rock, metal, punk, ska and alternative tunes.

From Metallica to Manson, Pantera to Paramore and System to Sublime, grade-A silliness is the order of the day as we invite you to tag onto the conga-line for another daft trek round Tempo for no reason in particular beyond the fact that it's there for the taking. Get ready to skank yourself into a stupor, mosh up some mayhem and pogo your pants off as we launch our twice-termly assault on all things shite and dutiful. Don't forget also that backwards baseball-caps are a must for the obligatory nu-metal smackdown (they tell us it's ironic, but do you believe 200-odd people going genuinely nuts to Limp Bizkit? I think not...)

Crash is all about getting involved, acting the goat and revelling in your mutual appreciation of some of the finest (and occasionally faintly suspect) music ever created. For those about to rock, we salute you - and if you are one of the aforementioned mopers determined to sit sulking in the corner all night and spoil everyone else's fun... well, jog on, frankly! Check your baggage at the door and come join the scrum at the area's finest alternative night.

Stemming from humble roots right here in the West Midlands, Gatecrasher is one of dance music’s biggest success stories. They were hugely influential in the rise of the trance scene in the late 90s, and together with Ministry of Sound, Cream and Hed Kandi have remained one of the UK’s most potent superclubs.

Surfing the crest of every major trend in dance over the last 15 years from techno and house through to trance and electro, a Gatecrasher event always guarantees thumping tunes and the quintessential club atmosphere – indeed, when a night’s able to cite such luminaries as Judge Jules and Eddie Halliwell as previous residents you know you’re in good company.

Tonight the Gatecrasher crew will take over the TES for a night of mayhem that’s sure to prove one of the year’s big draws!

There are some people who'll try and tell you that the 90s and early 00s were a cultural vacuum responsible for curling out a stream of dreadful tunes which then proceeded to float vacantly in the toilet bowl of musical history. These people are, of course, idiots. The years 1990-2003 were a veritable treasure-trove of quality chart music which have never been topped. How can anyone in their right mind not want to get down with Reel II Real "feat" The Mad Stuntman after a few cheeky alco-pops? Exactly.

Without further ado, let's - as Lloyd Grossman was wont to intone after snooping around some third-rate celebbo's home on Through the Keyhole - look at the evidence...

This was the decade that gave us Gala, Livin' Joy, Ian Van Dahl, Sash!, Faithless, Prodigy and Snap. It coughed up Steps, Aqua, S Club 7, PJ & Duncan, Let Loose, Take That, Backstreet Boys and East 17. It caressed our inner thigh to the silky sounds of TLC, En Vogue, Salt'n'Pepa, All Saints, B*Witched and the Spice Girls. We shimmied to Santana, Ricky Martin, Lou Bega, Shania and Shakira. We bopped to Blur, Pulp, Oasis, Supergrass, Kula Shaker and - yes! - The Levellers. We rocked out to Nirvana, Green Day, Blink-182, The Offspring and, er, Nickelback. Hopping a few years down the line, we were gift-handed Busted, McFly, Avril Lavigne, Bowling for Soup, Good Charlotte and Sum 41. It was, in short, admittedly fairly dodgy, but committed to spewing out a constant level of musical genius nonetheless.

So. School ties on and shame-o-meters off as we invite you to relive the most memorable tunes from your mis-spent youth! "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you; and all the things you do..."

So, big things gwarn for Control in 2009 and we are kicking off the year with an exclusive set from the fastest rising star in the music scene today - TODDLA T. We stumbled across his Myspace mix tape back in early '07, and I still have the damn thing in my car today... it’s banging, check it out for free on Toddla's Myspace.

23 year-old Tom Bell, aka. Toddla T, a lanky streak of gabbling enthusiasm, announced himself as British dance music's brightest new talent citing influences from that "clangy Sheffield electronic sound" first minted by Cabaret Voltaire to local speed garage variant, bassline and early Warp Records' bleep techno. Put simply, Britain hasn't heard party music this raw and vibrant since early Basement Jaxx. "I was conscious people might find it a bit 'aggro'," says Toddla. "But when I DJ, there's so many girls into it. It's mad. I thought I made boy music, but no, luckily."

Consequently, Toddla, who recently inked a long-term deal with 1965 Records, is a man in demand. His DJing schedule, which includes a monthly residency at Fabric, is packed; he’s involved in numerous side-projects, such as HervÈ and Sinden's Machines Don't Care collective; and, often working with his friend and studio mentor, Ross Orton (the man who reinforced MIA’s early work with Sheffield steel), TT been busy remixing the likes of Esser, Little Boots, Ladyhawke, Hot Chip and Tricky.
