The explosion of Marina & The Diamonds’ breakthrough single Hollywood across the nation’s airwaves in February this year heralded the arrival of a bright new star quite unlike any to have come before. Boasting one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music and driven by an irrepressible desire to make an indelible mark on UK culture, Marina Diamandis will cap off a superlative year by headlining the largest venues of her career.

Buoyed by her appearance in the BBC Sound of 2010 poll, Marina’s debut album The Family Jewels rocketed into the UK Top 5 on release, being certified Silver on advance sales alone. Drawing comparisons with iconoclastic and fiercely independent female artists such as Kate Bush, Tori Amos and Florence + The Machine, she has managed to forge a formidable path through the mainstream without ever compromising her unique style and sense of individuality.

Indeed, while Hollywood and the forthcoming Oh No! have practically redefined the sound of the contemporary pop single, introspective tracks like I Am Not a Robot and album closer Guilty showcase a different side of Marina’s songwriting, hinting at a darker and more dramatic edge which suggests that her best work may yet be unleashed.
