Union Council
.
Union Council is the Union's elected policy-making body, similar to a parliament or congress. Any Warwick student can attend, speak and propose business at Council, but only members can vote. Union Council's membership is around one third Union Officers and at least two thirds Union Councillors. Its jobs include:
- receiving reports from Union Officers
- holding Union Officers to account by questioning them, censuring them or removing them from office
- debating, amending and voting on Union Policy
- electing the Chair and Deputy Chair of Union Council and members of
- Standing Committees
- filling vacant Officer and Councillor positions (except Sabbatical Officers)

Union Councillors are elected by faculty (i.e. Science, Arts, Social Studies, Medicine and Education) to ensure that all Warwick students are represented. You can stand to be a Councillor by reading about the Autumn Elections, filling in a nomination form and giving it in to the Democratic Services Office in Union North.
Around 120 people sit on Council and most Union policies are passed at Council, giving it considerable power within the Union's democratic process. However, decisions made at a General Meeting or Referenda overrule decisions made by Council because they are more democratic and involve more Warwick students.
It is important to remember that any Warwick student can propose a motion to Union Council, for more information see our page on Union Policy.
If you have any questions at all please e-mail the Finance, Democracy and Strategy Officer - Tom Callow
