NUS Extra FAQs

All the information you need to know about the NUS Extra card. For any more details please email the Commercial Development and Communications Officer.

What is the NUS Extra card?

NUS Extra is a national initiative, with bigger, better and longer term discounts built in to the card compared to the previous NUS card. The discounts can be claimed in shops, when travelling, and on line – all for just £10. What’s more a portion of your £10 comes straight back to your Union, which means it goes straight back to you The NUS Extra card also has an ISIC Card (International Student Identity Card) built in (normally £7), which gets you recognition as a student all over the world.

So what’s the point of still having a Warwick Uni card as well?

Your Warwick University card will still act as a democracy card, which gets you all the rights of NUS membership. With this you can vote in Union democracy, gain entry into the Students’ Union and get into the library and Learning Grid. Your Warwick card will also still act as student identification in order to get student admission prices to venues such as the cinema.

So what discounts do I get?

The discounts have been carefully researched to cater for a diverse range of students. The discounts on offer will increase in number and impact as the year goes on and the NUS Extra card establishes itself as the ultimate in student ID. For a full list of discounts available, click here.

How do I apply for the Extra Card?

You simply go to the NUS Extra website with a credit / debit card, and a digital photo (suitable for ID), and upload your information. If this isn't possible, the Union are setting up a number of registration points where students can put their details into a computer, have a digital photo taken (using a webcam!), and pay. Simple!

How do I receive my card?

All cards are delivered to the Students’ Union within 2 weeks of applying. Once your card is ready, it will be ready for collection from Union North reception In the instance that you're not able to come in, you can let us know and we'll sort out alternative arrangements.

Can I use my card straight away?

You'll need to activate it to use it in shops that swipe the strip - this is a simple matter of revisiting the NUS Extra website and putting in your card number. This also tells the NUS that the card has been collected and is in use.

Are part-time students entitled to the Extra card?

Yes. All Warwick students can purchase the Extra card.

What happens if I lose my Extra card?

You will be asked to pay a small fee for re-issue.

Does the Extra card expire at the end of each academic year? Do you have to re-apply and pay again after that? And does the card cost the same if you buy it later in the year?

Yes, the card expires at the end of the year, and so you will need to renew it. And it costs £10 at any point in the year, so we recommend students make the investment sooner rather than later!
