Time commitment
4 hours per week til the end of Term 2 (19th March 2010). On top of this, attendance at the South Leamington Community Forum (evening of 22nd March 2010) and the training (early week 3, only an hour or two)

Aim of the role
To help Warwick Students’ Union in our commitment to supporting, and representing, students in the community. To identify issues affecting students’ lives in your designated area, and to feed those back. To help improve communication and understanding between students and non-student residents in the community, via active involvement in local groups and projects.
What is asked of you
  • Attend student community reps training afternoon run by Warwick Students’ Union
  • Actively seek out, and feed back, the views of students in your area
  • Regularly liaise with, and represent students in your area to, community groups. Collect basic data, and run a campaign based on your findings/work
  • Act in accordance with Warwick Students’ Union policy
  • Attend weekly meetings of all student community reps (and the Welfare Officer) to discuss common issues, progress, and feed back from community meetings
  • Provide feedback on, and assist in achieving, our Community Strategy
What skills you need
  • The ability to communicate confidently, by both making points effectively and also listening and being receptive
  • A keennesss to represent those who may not be able to voice their concerns effectively
  • Creativity, with the motivation and passion to both create and run a campaign
  • A real interest in bettering the relationship with students and the wider community
  • An ability to work impartially and confidentially
Opportunity – skills gained
communication in meetings; experience with building a diverse and sustainable community; experience with multi-agency projects; experience in applying basic housing knowledge; networking; marketing; experience working in a group.
