Lock up, fools!
If you’re leaving your house for the holidays and not staying for the Thursday late-night shopping, then make sure to make your house safe for your absence. Lock up all the doors and sidegates, shut all the windows no matter how small, and consider unplugging appliances from the walls. If you want a light timer, then pop into my office in SUHQ. Check out this pretty good video from Leeds to see how you can secure your property. Some easy-to-do tips:
Getting ready for the holidays
It’s not just about making sure your stuff doesn’t get nicked – there are other things you should do to make sure your property is in a fit state to come back to. It’s the basic things: don’t leave things moulding in your fridge; make sure you put your rubbish out on the right day to be collected before you go, so it’s not just rotting in your bin on your return; turn your heating off when you’re gone to save a few pounds and keep the polar bears happy!
Community Reps Scheme
At the start of the next term, we’re going to be launching our Community Representatives project in Leamington. Our Community Reps will help to support all off-campus students with issues around safety, security and the environment. They will also be there to act as a bridge between students and the non-student community, to ensure effective communication both ways.
We’ll be sending out a lot of stuff about this at the start of next term, so keep your eyes peeled if you think this is a scheme you’d want to get involved with!
SmartWater
In the spirit of securing your home, and giving yourself a bit of peace of mind when you’re at home over Christmas, consider taking up the offer for free Smartwater if you live in south Leam! Again, the contact for the local police team is 01926 684017, or preferably by email via their website.
Have a good holiday, whether you stay around or you leave – if you’re still here, come into SUHQ and say hi!
