Anti-racism Campaigns
Hello there all, im the Unions new Anti Racism Officer and am looking to get very active this year based on the following issues
1) Talks and discussions examining conceptions of ethnicity, migrant issues and contemporary race politics.
2) Engaging on the national level with what can broadly be identified as racist trends in society. This involves linking up in demonstrations and campaigning with groups like Unite Against Fascism and other groups concerned with migrant rights. We’re looking to become especially active here in the run up to the elections.
3) Opposing the new Points Based Visa system for international students, such inherently discriminatory measures place international students under strict state surveillance and could result in deportation based on lack of academic involvement. Working with academic groups to oppose this and gather information on how this is being implemented in Warwick is important, especially given the Border Agency’s recent calls for increase in restrictions.
4) Challenging ethnocentricity in the curriculum and working with SSLCs to give more prominence to the perspectives of minority groups.
Were looking to get as many people as possilbe active with these issues ,so if your looking to get involved in any way with the above campaigns or have any further ideas or suggestions please dont hesitate in contacting me.
