Being a Sabb is a bit like a hurdle race – you run along for a bit and then have to climb over a barrier.  You then go a bit further and then have to climb over more.  For me a two-year race is ending, but I’ve got one more barrier to climb – and one last time I need your help.

Today a Union General Meeting was called for Friday 29^th June (week 10) and this time it was my fault.  No, I haven’t gone completely mad and yes, I know what I’m doing – I’m trying to finish a job started well over a year ago and climb that one last hurdle.

Why now?

To be frank, it’s about finishing a job.  In order to fundamentally improve the structure of Union Democracy I have to change our Memorandum & Articles of Association and this can only be done through a General Meeting.  Yes, it would be lovely if we had done that at the last meeting in January but we weren’t ready.  Can it wait ‘til next year?  Technically yes, but I wouldn’t envy next year’s Sabb team – having to start the year trying to fundamentally change a structure is no easy task.

Why should you care?

Well, it’s important.  This Review has been done because of you and your feedback.  You’ve been frustrated with our structure and decision-making for a while now and only you can change that.  In a week’s time I’ll be filling you in more on the details of change (consulting our solicitors at the moment) but for now keep this date and time in your diary:
