Student Funding
This is the funding from the government for home undergraduate students.
Academic Year 2011-2012
Fee loan to cover cost of tuition fees £3375 Maintenance loan £3838 if living at home £4950 away from (except London) Maintenance grant £2906 (based on family income)
There are also Disabled Students’ Allowances. For students with dependants there is a Childcare Grant, a Parents' Learning Allowance and an Adult Dependants’ Grant.
More information is available on the Directgov website.
You don’t have to repay grants. Your tuition fee and maintenance loans are repayable once you have completed your studies when your earned income is more than £15,000 per year, (£1250 a month or £288 a week).
Your employer will automatically deduct 9% of your salary over this limit. So if you are earning £20,000 pa, you will pay 9% of £5,000 or £450 pa (£37.50 per month).
For more information see StudentLoanRepayment.co.uk.
Academic Year 2012-2013
Student funding will undergo a radical change from this year. The University will charge £9000 tuition fees for all courses except 2+2, foundation and part-time courses. They will be £6000. Students will be able to get a fee loan to cover the cost of their fees and also a maintenance loan of £5500 pa. Students from lower income families will be able to access a maintenance grant of up to £3250. This table gives a brief guide to what students will be able to get in loan and grant set against household income. These figures have not been finally confirmed and may be subject to change.

Disability and dependant-related grants will still be paid to those who are eligible.
Students starting their course in 2012 will not have to start paying back their loans until they have graduated and are earning over £21,000. The employer will deduct 9% of earnings over that amount. For example, if your salary was £25,000 you will pay 9% of £4000 which is £360 per year and £30 per month.
