Student Advice Centre

The Student Advice Centre is now closed until the 5th January

What is the Student Advice Centre?

The Student Advice Centre is staffed by professional advisors and they work closely with the welfare officer and the education officer. They offer confidential, free and informal information, advice and representation on a wide range of issues. They are a friendly bunch and it is usually best to make an appointment – although you can just drop in and see if anyone is free.

10 things you might need advice on...

  • My student loan hasn’t arrived, what do I do?
  • I think I might be doing the wrong course, can I change to another?
  • I bought a computer at the start of the year and it doesn’t work, what do I do?
  • How do I register with the doctor/dentist?
  • I’m an international student. How do I register with the Police? Am I allowed to work?
  • I want to extend the length of my Visa. What do I have to do?
  • I am a parent; can I get any benefits or financial help?
  • I’m looking for somewhere to live and I don’t know what to do first.
  • I’ve signed a contract for a house, but I want to get out of it. Can I?
  • I have a problem but don’t know where to go. Can you help?

Meet the Advice Team...

Steph Jones

Steph Jones - Welfare Officer

Moving to university is a huge step and many students will need a bit of support. If you’d like to talk to someone who can offer advice from a student perspective then get in touch with me. I am your representative on any welfare concerns to the university, as well as running welfare related campaigns and acting as a reporting centre for hate crime.

Mo Surve

Mohammed Surve - Education Officer

Completing your degree doesn’t always run smoothly and sometimes you can have problems - this is where I can help. I represent students to the university, government and beyond on all academic issues. I also offer help, advice, and representation on individual academic cases when you need it most.
